Community Mitzvah Day Set for Dec. 25

This family-friendly event is a day of volunteering throughout the Jewish communities, coordinated by the Jewish Volunteer Connection. There are numerous volunteer activities from which to choose.

December 25. It's a day of gift-giving and celebration for Christians, and also a day of giving—through volunteering—for the Jewish community.

Join in the volunteer efforts Dec. 25, Community Mitzvah Day 2011, when volunteer opportunities are available throughout Baltimore, Pikesville, Owings Mills, Parkville, as well as other communities.

For example, there's an extravaganza at the Weinberg Park Heights Jewish Community Center, where hundreds of volunteers will put together winter care packages for people in need.

But there are dozens of other events, too. The events schedule is coordinated through the Jewish Volunteer Connection.

There's knitting to do, seniors to socialize with, or meals to make and serve.

Young families can head out to Courtland Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation in Pikesville for a "Playdate Together," a multi-generational event, according to the JVC website.

Beth El Congregation and Baltimore Hebrew Congregation in Pikesville have their own Mitzvah events set up, as well.
