Fourteen Maryland state troopers are headed to New York City to compete in the World Police and Fire Games.

The team begins competing Friday against more than 14,000 police officers, firefighter and correctional officers, representing 70 countries.

The Olympic-style completition includes more than 65 sporting events, including triathlon, wrestling, powerlifting, basketbll, boxing and track and field.

The games run from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4, and include ceremonies honoring those who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001.
